The abbey Saint Michel

In 972, the bishop of Albi granted an estate to the Benedictines with the mission of founding an Abbey there. The monks were also ardently involved in the wine industry, which contributed to the economic development and influence of the town in France and abroad. The ecclesiastical history of the abbey stopped after the French revolution. Today the abbey houses the museum of the town of Gaillac, its vineyards and its church, as well as the wine house.

A privileged place to discover and understand the Gaillac vineyards and their wines.

Gaillac vineyard labelled “Vignoble et Découverte”  (Vineyard and Discovery)

Since 2010, this recognition awarded by Atout France (France’s Tourism Development Agency) rewards tourist and wine-producing destinations that offer a wide range of complementary tourist products (accommodation, restaurants, cellar visits and tastings, museums, events, etc.) enabling customers to organise their stay more easily and to focus on qualified services.

“The label reflects the determination of all the people involved (winemakers, hoteliers, restaurant owners and tourist officers) to work together to produce a great tourist experience based around the local wine culture, combining activities (walking trails, cultural visits, museums, sites of special interest…) with a warm welcome (from winemakers, hoteliers, craftsmen, wine caves…) and special events (festivals, exhibitions, conferences…)”. Extract from Vignoble et découverte

Passionate about wine and in an approach of oenotourism, Brin de Cocagne has been labelled “Vignoble et Découverte” (Vineyard and Discovery).
